Believing in the Bigger Picture

This is officially my 100th blog post for The Leader’s Digest!

It’s hard to believe that just one year and two months since embarking on this blogging journey, I am celebrating having published 100 of my leadership musings.

In the midst of my milestone achievement, I have come to realise the power of believing in the bigger picture.

When I first began blogging, I was fearful of what people might think. I felt nervous about how I might look. What people might say. Whether I was ‘good enough’. And if anyone would read it anyway.

As I’m sure you’d agree, these sorts of fears are completely normal.

We all suffer from self-doubt from time to time. Particularly if we live/work in environments where standing out from the crowd is frowned upon.

So, I decided to change my tact. Rather than dwelling on the ‘what if’ I focused my attention to my ‘why’.

I got really clear about what I wanted from this ultimately – and what success looks like to me.

From that point on, writing two blog posts a week, every week, without fail, became a lot easier. Sure, I have had my moments. The self-doubt monster still surreptitiously appears from time to time. But when I know what I want, the obstacles are much easier to conquer.

When we keep our eye on the bigger picture, it helps to eliminate…

Self doubt
Obstacles
Fear
Negativity

And, when we know what we want, we make room for the traits we need to succeed in our goal, such as…

Courage
Determination
Faith
Clarity
Motivation

So, please join me in celebrating my 100th blog – because without you, this journey would not have been possible.

And when you’re struggling in your leadership role, feeling the weight of the daily grind, or overwhelmed by the unknown ‘what if’, take a moment to get clear about your ‘why’.

As Erin Andrews said, “Success doesn’t happen overnight. Keep your eye on the prize and don’t look back.”
